Getting to the Root of Your Pain
Your spine is one of the most complex structures in the body. It houses and protects your spinal cord, anchors major muscle groups, and supports your posture and movement in every direction. When something goes wrong, the resulting symptoms can range from localized pain to numbness, weakness, and neurological changes throughout the body.
At Premier Neurosurgery, we use advanced diagnostic imaging and comprehensive evaluations to cut through the complexity and identify exactly what is causing your symptoms. We don’t treat imaging findings in isolation — we correlate your symptoms, exam, and studies before recommending anything, and build your treatment around those answers.
Conditions We Treat
Dr. McCutcheon specializes in treating a wide range of spinal conditions with advanced surgical techniques
Disc Herniation
When the soft interior of a spinal disc pushes through the outer layer, it can press on nearby nerves and cause significant pain, numbness, or weakness. Dr. McCutcheon specializes in both non-surgical and surgical approaches to herniated discs, with the goal of relieving pressure and restoring function by the least invasive means possible.
Spinal Stenosis
Spinal stenosis occurs when the spinal canal narrows and compresses the nerves that run through it. This can cause pain, cramping, or weakness in the legs and back, often making it difficult to walk or stand for long periods. Dr. McCutcheon offers decompression procedures intended to relieve pressure on affected nerves in appropriately selected patients.
Radiculopathy
Radiculopathy happens when a compressed or irritated nerve root causes pain, tingling, or numbness that radiates down an arm or leg. It is commonly caused by disc herniations or bone spurs, and can significantly affect daily life. Treatment focuses on relieving the source of nerve compression and restoring healthy nerve function.
Cervical Myelopathy
Cervical myelopathy is a serious condition that occurs when the spinal cord itself is compressed in the neck. Symptoms can include difficulty with fine motor skills, problems with balance and coordination, and numbness or weakness in the hands. Early intervention is important, and Dr. McCutcheon has extensive experience with the surgical approaches needed to decompress the spinal cord and prevent further neurological decline.
Sciatica
Sciatica is characterized by pain that travels from the lower back through the buttock and down the leg, often following the path of the sciatic nerve. It is typically caused by a herniated disc or bony overgrowth putting pressure on the nerve. Most cases respond well to targeted treatment, and Dr. McCutcheon can identify the precise source of nerve compression and advise whether surgery is needed.
Neurogenic Claudication
Neurogenic claudication causes pain, heaviness, or weakness in the legs during walking or standing, typically brought on by spinal stenosis in the lower back. Unlike vascular claudication, the symptoms are related to nerve compression rather than blood flow. Treatment focuses on relieving the underlying stenosis to restore your ability to move comfortably.
Your Roadmap to Recovery, Explained in Plain Language
One of the most common things patients tell us is that they have seen other doctors but still feel confused about what is actually wrong with them. After a thorough evaluation, Dr. McCutcheon will walk you through exactly what we found, what it means, and what we can do about it. Every step of your treatment will be clearly explained, in plain language, so that you feel confident and prepared.
Whether you are dealing with chronic pain, nerve compression, or progressive weakness, we are here to guide you through your options and help you make the best decision for your health and your future. Our goal is not just to treat your condition, but to give you the information and support you need to move forward with confidence.
